Hi, we are so happy that you are here!
We are Marten and Simone and live with our three sons and some sheep near Bremen in Northern Germany on an old farm. Marten has been part of the yarn label Raincloud and Sage for the last few years and co-founded the company.
With our label Soil Yarn we are embarking on a new wool adventure in which our focus is on the production of sustainable wool. We make yarns for creative people from unused wool that would otherwise end up in landfills. For this we buy the freshly shorn wool from small sheep farms and have it spun into beautiful yarns in a spinning mill - all of this happens in Germany. At Soil Yarn we try to work as transparent and local as possible and if we source specific wool from sustainable sources in neighboring European countries we always label this.
Why the name Soil Yarn?
We chose the name Soil Yarn because we are fascinated by the rich meaning of soil - everything grows from soil, including the grass for our sheep, which nourishes them and allows these beautiful animals to produce their wonderful wool.

One of our core values is that the sheep we get the wool from lead a happy and species-appropriate life.
Family Run
We are a small family business and we try to work with local suppliers and companies as much as possible to produce our wool right here in Germany.
Sustainability
We strive to produce wool that does not harm animals or the environment and has a beneficial effect on the customer. Our packaging is environmentally friendly.
